Benefits of RIDES

To Consumers

  • RIDES will provide the general public with information patrons need in order to safely choose and use amusement rides, devices, and attractions.
  • RIDES will help connect specific vulnerable populations with appropriate medical and technical expertise so that consumers can learn about interactions that expose certain groups to higher risk of injury (i.e., young children, older riders, those with pre-existing physical, mental, or emotional limitations).

To Government

  • RIDES will give government safety officials a way to share information on the amusement rides operated within their jurisdictions, learn about events and trends in the larger world, and network with a wide variety of expert resources that may be relevant to issues they are responsible for addressing.
  • RIDES will promote harmonization of record formats between agencies, and provide jurisdictions that do not currently track ride safety information a way to do so without the expense of creating duplicative information management systems in every state or local government.
  • RIDES can be used as a resource to improve inspectors' knowledge and efficiency through easy access to safety-critical information.

To Industry

  • RIDES will provide centralized access to a wide variety of information and resources relevant to the safe design, manufacture, operation, and inspection of amusement rides.
  • RIDES will encourage rider responsibility by giving adult consumers information they need in order to choose and use amusement rides that will be safe for them, and for the more vulnerable individuals in their care. RIDES is the only ride-related accident prevention system specifically designed to reduce accidents related to patron choices, assumptions, and actions.
  • RIDES will develop computer tools to ease the redundant work associated with submitting documentation required by various regulatory jurisdictions. This offers special benefit for operators of portable rides.

To Physicians and Researchers

  • RIDES will improve the medical community's ability to monitor the health effects of thrill rides and keep abreast of specific equipment/patron group interactions that increase injury risk for certain people on certain types of rides.
